Rules

The Crossfitter’s Mentality

Upmost Important Rule: Don’t cheat the movement! Don’t cheat to get a faster time! Don’t cheat to lift a heavier weight!

1) The Crossfitter is dedicated to giving their all in every workout; and while doing this will realize how much they can dig deep and find within themselves.

2) The CrossFitter does not complain or make excuses. There are plenty of people out there making them, they don’t feel they need to be one of them.

3) Lactic acid (causes the muscle pain athletes experience after engaging in strenuous physical activity) is the Crossfitter’s friend. The Crossfitter knows the value of anaerobic (high intensity exercise) failure, and actively seeks it out. If we falls on our face, we wait only as long as necessary to move again before we continue.

4) The Crossfitter knows that anything that opposes them is actually assisting them in becoming mentally and physically stronger. If they had no opposition they would not be as strong as they are.

5) The Crossfitter runs. They do not use Stairmasters, or stationary bikes, or ellipticals. They run.

6) When the Crossfitter cannot run, they walk. When they cannot walk, they crawl. When they cannot crawl, they have failed.

7) The Crossfitter hits big muscles, like the back, the pectorals, the quadriceps and the glutes. They know this means they are building functional muscle that will assist in them in the challenges life throws at them daily

8) By contrast, the Crossfitter does not waste much time on small muscles. They will grow as the result of functional exercise that hits the big muscles (see above). For example, the bicep is only useful in that it assists with chin-ups, Anything else is vanity.

9) The Crossfitter hates cables and machines. This is for two reasons. First, to activate stabilizer muscles, the Crossfitter must depend on themselves to balance the weight, not a machine. Second, life does not challenge them with artificial lines of action.

10) The Crossfitter fears only one thing: their workout. If they don’t fear their workout, it isn’t hard enough.

11) Puking is acceptable. Quitting is not. If they give up here, they give up when life gets difficult.

12) The Crossfitter loathes missing a workout. A Crossfitter can complete a workout in his grandma’s basement, a hotel room, or in a city park. The Crossfitter believes a workout missed is an opportunity missed that will aid them in becoming a better person and athlete.

13) The Crossfitter never cheats. They maintains proper technique throughout their training. Their is no honor in cheating. They know their is not joy in victory they did not earn.

14) The Crossfitter knows the value of the basics: the push-up, the pull-up, the chin-up, the sit-up, the squat, and the dead-lift. They also knows the importance of variety, and seeks out different techniques of the above.

15) Feel it. Fight it. Finish it.
